About the Essex Organ Museum Web Site

This website came about as the result of two things

1. The Essex Organ Museum will eventually be a physical museum. Instruments and building just need bringing together. The museum would need a web site.

2. I needed something to keep my brain active while I recovered from cancer surgery and chemotherapy. I decided that a museum website should be a resource in its own right. Building the site would keep me sane.

There is a lot of information on the internet, if you know where to look. I wanted to make that information easily available.
There is a lot of information in books, not so easy to find.

With time on my hands and a bit of knowledge I set about building a resource that would encompass as much of the organ world as I could.
I started with what I knew, I had been involved in the electronic scene for a good many years, I was chairman of a keyboard club, sadly closed due to members dying on me, and I have been involved in assisting in running a number of organ festivals.

Building the site I have learnt a lot, you would think Cathedral organists would be pillars of society, think again. On the pages of this site are sad stories, funny stories, downright weird stories and plain that's life stories.

I have been fortunate to receive additional information from families and organisations regarding people and instruments mentioned. I will always acknowledge my sources. If you believe I have missed an important item please get in touch, e-mail link at the bottom of every page.

New information is added most days, I don't see this ending any time soon.

This web site is my hobby. I built it, I maintain it, I pay for the hosting. For the technically minded it is straight HTML and CSS, I use the coffee cup HTML editor as it takes some of the drudgery out of coding.

I try to make the site as accurate as possible, where there are different versions of the truth I try to provide access to all sources so people can make up their own minds.

Having spent five years plus working on this website my work is coming to an end. Not because there is no more to add, but because my cancer has returned and is now untreatable. As of MArch 2021 I have about six months left, how much time I can devote to the web site depends on how quickly my health deteriorates.
I will continue to add to the site, I enjoy the challenge of finding out about the organs and organists.
